If you feel that the insurance company has treated you unfairly, or they rejected you, please send en email to sh@group.bme.hu. This email belongs to the HSZI staff who are responsible for the Generali insurance. They will let you know about your options.

General information

Generali is a private insurance that covers recent medical issues. TAJ, the Hungarian National Health Insurance (public health care) covers a wider variety of illnesses and medical care, but you may have to wait longer for your treatment.

 

It is important to understand that Generali does not replace TAJ. It is a highly recommended extra insurance you can use while you are waiting for your TAJ card, as well as in addition to it once you have your TAJ card; as a faster but more limited option. The goal is to have both. Please note that Generali does not cover the treatment of previously existing conditions or anything that may be caused by them.

 

To contact Generali with your medical problems, please call +36 1 465 3784, their 24/7 hotline and they will book an appointment for you, or tell you where to go. If you don’t have Generali, or they turned you away, please contact our medical help team (imt.medhelp@bme.hu). Please note that they cover the costs of treatments ONLY if they are informed in advance (except in case of life-threatening emergency).

 

The first period of the insurance lasts until 31 January 2021, however, it will be automatically renewed until late summer if you still hold your student status. You received important documents when you signed your contract: your Declaration of accession. If you are unsure whether you have a valid Generali insurance, you can inquire about it in the Stipendium Hungaricum Student Office (located on the left hand corridor on the ground floor of Building R).

If you need to visit a doctor at weekend, or on a national holiday, you can go to the emergency department of a state hospital for treatment. In this case, you will have to pay for the service and ask for a formal invoice about the treatment. You will need to call the hotline on the next workday, explain your situation and send them your invoice. They will be able to reimburse you only afterwards.

Application form guide

As a Stipendium Hungaricum (SH), or Christian Young People (SCYP) scholarship holder, you are entitled for the additional Generali health insurance free of charge.

 

All you have to do is to fill out the application form and take two copies of it to the BME R building, Room 10 in the opening hours (every weekday 9-12).

Please note that:
  1. Handwritten documents will not be accepted.
  2. It’s forbidden to edit the original document.
  3. Please provide your name as it appears in your passport.
  4. Education ID: If you have a valid student ID card, (11-digit code found in the brown box).
  5. NEPTUN code (required).
  6. A total of 2 dates and signatures are required.
  7. Two witnesses must sign the contract, otherwise your document will be rejected.
  8. Bring two copies to BME Building R, Room 10 in the opening hours (Mondays 9-12).
  9. We can forward only the properly filled forms to Generali.
  10. If any of these details are incorrect, your document will be rejected.

Emergency situation

In urgent cases, Generali will tell you to visit a state hospital. Once you spoke with the insurance company and received this suggestion, you can ask for a mentor’s help at imt.medhelp@bme.hu. Please include your full name, Neptun code, phone number and exact location, and explain your situation as thoroughly as you can (that you have Generali insurance, your actual medical issue and whether you have a TAJ card as well). Please bring your documents and Generali contract with you to the hospital. You will need to ask for a formal INVOICE, too. Otherwise, your expenses will not be reimbursed. 

The location of Emergency hospitals in the districts where most of our students live:
District 11: 1115 Budapest, Tétényi út 12-16/A
It is inside the Szent Imre hospital complex, near the emergency entrance. Many doctors we met there could speak English, but you can never be sure about it.

Districts 6 and 7: 1073 Budapest, Dob utca 86.

Districts 8 and 9: 1096 Budapest, Haller utca 29/A
It is located in a large hospital complex, but it has a separate entrance from Haller utca.

How do I know which district I live in?

It is quite easy to decide: you can see a 4-digit postal code in your address. The two middle numbers indicate the district. For example, Visit dorm’s postal code is 1114, meaning it is located in district 11, or Corvin dorm’s postal code is 1082, which means it is located in district 08.
