Issuing Your Tax Identification Number (Tax Card)
This is an official guide from IMT on requesting your tax ID at NAV (National Tax and Customs Administration)
1. Why do I need a tax ID?
It is crucial to get your tax ID as soon as possible because BME can transfer your scholarship to you ONLY once you have it! Please note that you do not need your card itself, knowing your number and uploading it to Neptun is perfectly enough!
Don’t forget that you also need a Hungarian bank account to start receiving your scholarship! For information on setting up a bank account, check out our guide here.
2. What do I need for starting the process?
Applying for a Tax ID is a mandatory officiary step that you can do as soon as you arrive. You will only need your passport. Please bring a copy of your passport to your appointment!
You will also need to fill out a datasheet with all your relevant information. You can find the datasheet here.
3. When and where do I need to go to start the process?
We no longer organise tax ID appointments this year (2020). So you can only apply alone: you need to go to the central office of the NTCA.
Making an appointment
As of 8 March 2021 the central taxpayer services office of South-Budapest Tax and Customs Directorate of the NTCA (1097 Budapest, Vaskapu u. 33-35.) receives the taxpayers exclusively if an appointment is previously made – except for the administration of healthcare contribution, obtaining postal cheques and receipt of taxpayer applications.
No registration for ügyfélkapu (governmental portal) is needed to make an appointment.
Please open and follow the steps of this guide.
