Dear Students,

The purpose of this post is to provide you with information regarding the COVID-19 vaccination in Hungary. For a start, we summarized the key points for you:

    • Vaccines are voluntary and free – you do not need to have a TAJ number.
    • You will need two doses to develop immunity.
    • If you want to get vaccinated, register here first (do not worry, you might not get an email after registration).
    • After registration, you can book an appointment for the vaccination here (even without a TAJ card) – and even choose the type of vaccine which will be given to you (availability of certain vaccines may change day by day though).  The government made a video guide to help you with the appointment booking.
    • There are some conditions (e.g. pregnancy, certain allergic reactions) in which the vaccine cannot be given to you. This includes a positive PCR test that was made within 3 months.
    • Before getting the vaccine, you will need to fill out a consent form. We translated it for you, you can find it here.

If you are interested in a detailed explanation of the current situation, please continue reading.

As you probably know, COVID-19 vaccinations began in Hungary end of December. To get the vaccine, you need to register on this site. The vaccine is voluntary and free of charge, even without a TAJ number. After registration, you can book an appointment on this site. Find the video guide to the appointment booking above. Here, you can choose from the available vaccines. However, the availability of certain vaccines may change day by day though.  Currently, the following five types of vaccines are used in Hungary: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, and Sputnik V.

You will need two doses of the vaccine to develop immunity. Usually, these should be given 3-4 weeks apart (or more, depending on the type of the vaccine). However, there are some conditions in which the vaccine cannot be given to you. These include pregnancy, certain allergic reactions, an illness with acute fever and a few more. More importantly, if you have a positive PCR test which confirms that you were infected with COVID-19 within 3 months, you cannot get the vaccine. Before the vaccination, you will need to fill out a form to check whether you are eligible or not. We translated this form for you, you can find it here.

We hope this post is helpful and clarifies the situation for you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments.

    Kind regards,

    The MedHelp Team
